Spring Cleaning
Hi there! I’m Sarah, a busy mom of two energetic kiddos who think messes are a personality trait. Like many of you, I love spring. It’s the season of fresh starts, blooming flowers, and finally opening the windows without freezing your face off.
Whether you’re a parent knee-deep in Legos or a solo city-dweller trying to figure out how your tiny apartment got so chaotic, these spring cleaning tips are for everyone, not just moms!
1. Start Small, One Room at a Time
Don’t try to deep-clean your entire home in one day unless you also try to burn out completely. I’ve learned that starting with one manageable area—like that chaotic kitchen junk drawer filled with expired coupons and rogue paperclips, can spark motivation to keep going.
👉 Tip: Tackling one space at a time keeps you from sitting in the middle of your living room whispering “what have I done?” to a pile of mystery cords and half-burned candles.
2. Get the Kids Involved (if you have them!)
Listen, getting kids to help clean is a journey. Some days it's a team effort. Other days, they “accidentally” clean by shoving everything under the couch. But even small tasks, like wiping surfaces or matching socks, can make them feel included.
For those of you flying solo, turn it into a game. Set a timer and race yourself. Or my favorite? Promise yourself a treat after, maybe a glass of wine, a fancy latte, or a guilt-free Netflix binge.
3. Declutter with Purpose
Ask yourself the hard-hitting questions like: “Have I worn this peacoat since 2022?” or “Why do I still own a singing fish from the early 2000s?” (Yes, I had one. No, I don’t know why.)
Whether you’re a parent or a professional with five identical black blazers, the “one in, one out” rule can be a game-changer. Buy a new sweater? Donate the one you never wear but swear you might someday. Spoiler: you won’t.
4. Create a Cleaning Playlist
Music transforms chores from “ugh” to “okay, I’m kinda feeling myself.” I crank up Billy Joel’s Pressure when the in-laws are coming over because that is the mood. Or if I need to hype myself up, I go full Bon Jovi. Living on a Prayer while scrubbing the toilet just hits differently.
Spring cleaning isn’t just about sparkling countertops. It’s about making space—physically and mentally—for new energy, new ideas, and maybe even a new houseplant you swear you won’t kill this time.
A cleaner space = a clearer mind = a happier you. So whether you're a parent trying to reclaim the playroom or just someone tired of tripping over laundry baskets, these tips are your permission slip to start small, laugh a little, and let the season work its magic.
You've got this. 🧼✨
(And if all else fails, light a candle and pretend it’s clean.)
